Free Soul Arts

It’s all in the name: Free Soul.

Freesoul Art Workshops are freestyle art workshops for kids and adults that are designed to give the gift of freedom of expression, and for them to have the courage to revel in it, and marvel at it.

A Freesoul workshop nurtures and celebrates each person and their unique personalities and creative processes. Building self belief and natural authentic confidence through creating, experimenting and exploring with paint and other mediums.

Upcoming workshops for children

Four new art workshops running January – February 2026 – exploring the self, the ego, the windows to the soul, colour and the world around us.
Buy one for £22 or all four for £80.

Fun! Yup, we beleive in fun!

Freestyle painting facilitates powerful messages

” TO BE ACCEPTED” “OH”, “I BELEIVE IN FUN”, ” ALWAYS GO UP, NEVER GO DOWN”.

Painted worlds from the imagination, books and dreams, designed onto flags to be flow in the sun and celebrated.

Who are Freesoul Workshops designed for?

The workshops are designed for children ages 8-14 approximately but there is much leaway. The only prerequisite is that children are ready to explore their innately creative selves. Their work will of course aid the development of the school art work, though the emphasis is non curricular and is geared to helping your child feel confident and joyful in being the artist they already are and in the process learning to love themselves and appreciate their peers in a fun, nurturing environment.

The Ethos

Freesoul is here for your children to experience the joy of creating from a place of joy and disinhibition. Where they let go of perfection and embrace the process. Where they let go of the notions of right and wrong and rejoice in the fun of simply imagining and creating from the heart, from the soul.

Freesoul gives kids the total freedom to be entirely themselves with no expectiation. They will learn that it is safe and wonderful to be themselves just as they are and whatever they create will be seen as a reflection of their unique selves to be celebrated. I will be quietly building your childrens’ confidence, self beleif and their creativity from a place of fun and structured freedom.

Often, children and indeed adults can feel stifled in a world where acheivement is paramount over fostering happiness, joy and celebrating ourselves whatever we do. Freesoul is an antidote to stress, to “i must/should get this right”. Kids are welcomed into a nurturing and loving space where everything they create will be honoured and valued. Each piece of their work will be seen as a wonder of their being and celebrated, by myself and the group around them.

The Wokshops – What happens?

I guide each 1.5 hour workshop as a qualified teacher of art/trainee counsellor and facilitator of fun and expressive freedom and improvisation.

I hold QTS and am training in counselling integrative therapy with the CPTA.

  • Each child is given a piece of calico canvas to paint and experiment on which is pinned onto the wall. It will measure approximately 80cm by 80cm so we are working BIG scale.
  • Each session will be inspired by a non directive theme. The combination of working large scale on calico on messy walls to a non prescriptive theme such as “dreamscapes” or “paint out your thoughts and feelings”, allows for a lot of freedom of movement and creative techniques and play.
  • The children can splatter paint, they can use their hands to paint. They can dance to awesome tunes while creating with brushes, sponges, hands, rags-anything that inspires.
  • Often, working small can inhibit a beautiful “letting go” process and foster perfectionism. Working big however gets messy, playful and disinhibited whilst also creating powerful works of self exploratory work the kids can be truly proud of.
  • We start with a check in to build connections and a sense of safety in the studio and end with a sharing circle where children are free to comment on their own and others work always fostering attitudes of respect, kindness and curiosity for themselves and in each other.

Techniques

  • I will be teaching skills such as;
  • collage, charcoal sketching, action painting, blending
  • drawing from the imagination versus an online image
  • exploring feeling into colour and form
  • use of acrylics, other water based paints and inks and mixing these with other materials for a mixed media effect
  • They will learn about scale, colour theory in action and brush techniques.

The techniques I have listed are in constant evolution. A key skill taught will be exploration. For the children to explore materials themselves and see what happens on the canvas.
